Sorry for the slow speed on this one, I slacked off on the editing/typesetting again…(sweats). I’m also doing some personal translation stuff (and private requests), but I’m sort of trying to manage my time better. Sort of.

Anyway, I forgot to scan the cover for this one, but you can find it at the artist’s Pixiv page. It’s also kind of a rough follow from middle to end because of pronoun stuff that doesn’t really translate well into English, but I tried.

Aaah thank you so much for translating this! I really like this post-story. :’o

Yayay!! Finally arrived– my first doujin purchases. ; 0 ; My first time ordering from Otaku Republic, so they gave me a free pin too!
I ended up really liking all the stories packed into both volumes.
For those interested, the artist is Takato Kyoro...

My concept for Laura from Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn if she were added into Heroes!

image

This fanart of Laura was commissioned from my friend Ciaz! ( @wyvernexe )

Name: Laura
Title: Carefree Saint
Unit Type: Staff Infantry

+5-Star Level 1 Stats+
-   HP: 16/17/18
- Atk: 7/8/9
- Spd: 5/6/7
- Def: 2/¾
- Res: 9/10/11

+5-Star Level 40 Stats+
-  HP: 31/34/37
- Atk: 30/33/36
- Spd: 29/32/35
- Def: 13/16/18
- Res: 29/32/35

+Natural Skills+
- Weapon: Sleep [5 Mt. After combat, foe is inflicted with status preventing them from acting for 1 turn (cooldown count +1). This can only be applied once per map.] (Only Staff Infantry may Inherit this)
- Assist: Recover [Restores 15 HP. Slows Special trigger (cooldown count +1).]
- Special: Swift-Winds Balm [1-Cooldown. When healing an ally with a staff, grants all allies Spd+4 for 1 turn.]
- Passive A: Enlightened Strike [Unit’s first attack in battle deals 5 bonus damage.] (Only Staff units may Inherit this)

Summary: In Chapter 3-13 of Radiant Dawn, there is a Base Conversation Laura has with Aran, in which Aran claims that she has dropped a Staff. This Staff didn’t actually belong to Laura, but out of curiosity she tried it out. It was revealed to be a Sleep Staff, which she decided to keep.

For further clarification on Sleep in Heroes, it would prevent the target from both counter-attacking for that Player Phase, and acting at all on the following Enemy Phase. Note that this can only be applied once per map, so you cannot repeat this every turn, let alone use a Dancer to apply this to two enemies at once. Additionally, this is limited to Staff Infantry, so you cannot have a Staff Cavalry unit Inherit this to futher its range. To top it off, it adds to the cooldown count of Specials. Paired with Recover (or Rehabilitate, the most popular Healing Assist), this would add a total of +2 to the cooldown count of any Specials the Healer would try to make use of, hindering the consistency of any utility the Special would bring.

And for more clarification on Enlightened Strike, the 5 bonus damage is calculated AFTER the potential normal damage that would be dealt, so this Skill would allow the unit to always deal a minimum of 5 damage regardless of the target’s Resistance. This allows the skill to be reliable in its function regardless of the unit having Wrathful Staff or not.

Enlightened Strike may seem a bit much in potential with Inheriting Genny’s Wrathful Staff, but keep in mind that the most offensive weapon Healers can get is the mere 10 MT from Assault, and that Enlightened Strike’s bonus only applies to the first attack in battle. Additionally, choosing to run Assault would lose the utility of Sleep.

Ending this summary with a small bit of trivia; I mainly decided to give Laura Swift-Winds Balm not just because of being a low-cooldown Special, but because Wind is her Affinity.

+Character Page Lines+ (Which you can hear voiced samples of at the top of this post)
- “To have met in such a place… is this the will of the goddess?”
- “Sometimes, you remind me of the Dawn Brigade Bandits. Oh! Don’t be alarmed! They’re good bandits, I assure you!”
- “I had spent a lot of time with a friend back in Kisca. I wonder how he fares now…”
- “May the goddess shed light on your path!”
- “Hm… I was thinking of collecting some medicinal herbs. Would you like to join me?”
- (giggling)
- “Ah, I hope the Abbot is doing well…”
- “Is there anything I can help you with?”

I saw it coming based on the OP, but I still like how it played out and think it’s a pretty good direction to go. Makes things complicated, and I hate it when things are too easy for the characters.

Knew it would happen eventually, since the 3DS game already spoiled that the development. Though the anime did much better in the setup for it compared to the game.

On the similar topic of game-to-anime adaptations, Monster Hunter Stories’ anime handling of Cheval was much much better compared to the games as well– since they had much better setup by comparison.

Ah. I haven’t played the game for either of them, so I went into them unspoiled.

What they’re doing with Lance did actually give me vibes to Cheval, except in Cheval’s case it was more his own fault.

For Monster Hunter Stories, the game literally opens up with Cheval’s house (with his mother in it) destroyed by the Nargacuga. Compared to the anime where they had a good setup of establishing him being the kind-hearted best friend.

For Pazudora X, Lance’s transformation was more fueled by his feelings of inferiority after losing the Battle Cup to the main character. And his transformation literally only lasts one battle, versus the anime which I assume will last the rest of the season.

Thinking on it now, rival/best friend turned enemy is a pretty common/popular trope for these sort of younger audience focused shows. Haha

That’s interesting to know, and seems like a poor decision. Part of the reason Cheval’s arc had such an impact is because we got to know him first.

Yeah, even Battle Spirits has done that a couple times, with J, Tegamaru and Kiriga (although it wasn’t known at first that Kiriga and Rei used to be friends.)

Definitely, if I hadn’t watched the anime first, I’d have had a lot less investment in Cheval’s character game-wise. If you happen to have a 3DS though, I’d recommend getting MHS as a fun little game. (It was recently and surprisingly localized.)

No hope for Pazudora X or Batosupi TCG being localized anytime soon though… I’d just be happy with either of their animes being localized completely so that I have more people to talk to about it. ; _ ;

Don’t have one, actually. I don’t play games enough to justify buying it. Mostly into casual puzzle-type games, which are easy enough to find online or for mobile.

I kind of agree. At least, I wish they would get a stream license (or in Pazudora’s case, they renew the streaming license.) On one hand, I have an eternal dislike for what they did with the Spider Riders dub, and it’s not even the worst-faring of English-dubbed kids shows. It just kills me that people think some of the stuff they did with that actually happened in the Japanese, especially some of the weird plot holes, dubtext and catchphrases. And I wouldn’t wish that treatment on more shows I like. But it’s a pain to be watching something and no one who speaks English even knows what it is. Give me official English versions for Pikaia and Drive Head too, please. I think the person who was subbing the latter dropped that pretty early on, which is a shame because it’s gotten much better.

With Battle Spirits, it’s such a shame that Bandai mishandled the TCG when they had it here. Had they bothered to advertise it at all, or actually carry it in any physical store, just maybe it wouldn’t have died so quickly.

I’m half hoping that after the series finishes its run, they’ll renew the stream license. With the latest trend of only hosting their first episode + their latest episode on their official youtube channel, perhaps this may be a sign of them doing this? I imagine for toy-etic shows like these, they’re more concerned with selling merch than DVDs anyways.

I watched Spider Riders way back when it aired in English, so I’m not too familiar with the subtle (or not so subtle) differences between the two. I was pretty young, so I probably didn’t notice a lot of the plot holes.

Thankfully, it seems like most dubs as of late (that are done by Funimation at least) are pretty true to the source material. There is a lot less need to “Americanize” shows compared to the 4Kids era.

Just looked up both Pikaia and Drive Head as well. It’s a shame that neither were picked up officially. I wouldn’t mind giving more of these kinds of shows a shot. ; ^ ;

I know the DVD sales aren’t a big deal. But it’s still a shame they won’t license them for streaming in English speaking countries, even if they never get a proper DVD/BD release. People who are curious can watch them (legally and easily) and they won’t have to waste money producing discs that might not sell too well. It’s not ideal, but it’s better than ignoring them altogether. And this coming from someone who watches lots of shows, kids anime and otherwise. I appreciate getting to see subs for something like Keppei Danshi Aoyama-kun or 18if right after they air. I want to watch stuff like Battle Spirits as well.

Well, the dub was a mess. The biggest thing was having the Insectors (which they called Invectids in the dub) eat all the plant life. Which in the Japanese, they certainly didn’t. The entire point of the episode which explained their backstory was that they had no idea why their sun poofed one day (and all the plant life died as a result) and will do anything at any cost to bring it back and ensure their livelihood. The episode was meant to portray them sympathetically. Then the dub goes back to the real story later. Because whoever wrote that episode in English probably realized, “oops, we messed up.” Another awkward plothole was making Lumen younger, thus he apparently was acquainted with Noia before he was born or when he was 0. I actually have a long rant detailing exactly what’s wrong with the dub and there’s even more that I glossed over: http://soaker87.tumblr.com/post/164174860698/a-spider-riders-guide-for-beginners-mainly

Not too many dubs are Americanized, but not too many kid friendly shows get licensed to be dubbed as is. A recent example is Glitter Force, which has so far butchered two separate seasons of Pretty Cure. I can tolerate some name changes, but they actually cut out whole episodes if content came off as too Japanese. I haven’t watched Glitter Force more than skimming through a little to see what the voices sounded like, but it seems like exactly the kind of dub I don’t advocate.

I actually subbed all of Pikaia. Highly recommend watching it. It’s a small commitment, because the episodes are only 15 minutes long (shorter if you skip the educational segments at the end, which are fun but not vital to the plot.) https://shomentoppa.wordpress.com/

Not sure what happened with the Drive Head subs. From what I saw, someone was translating the scripts and posting them on 4chan, but not actually encoding them to episodes. And seem to have stalled. The early episodes are pretty much just rescue-of-the-week and kind of bland, but the plot has been picking up as of late, and it’s been a fun watch.

Since I really don’t have much space (or use) for toys, I do like to pick up DVDs/Blurays when I can just to support series that I like. I remember trying to pick up Glitter Force on Netflix but… I pretty much agree with you in how obvious they butchered the series.

Also… Oh ho ho! I didn’t even realize that you had subbed all of Pikaia. I guess I know how I’ll be spending the rest of my afternoon. :0

I’m sure I’ve said this before, but many thanks for your subbing. If it weren’t for you, I’d never have gotten into Batosupi at all– which would be a great shame since I’d say Sword Eyes is one of my favorite kid shows.
